Following national coverage of possible evictions because of the Bedroom Tax, South Lanarkshire SNP have welcomed the statement from the Council Leader that evictions will not be considered until at least April 2014.
Eviction letters are the third stage in a process and should not be issued without clearance from a senior officer.
SNP Housing Spokesperson, David Shearer, said, “These letters have been sent out in error and have obviously caused great distress. I am pleased that the administration have apologised and made clear that help and assistance will be made available to people whose arrears are solely because of the Bedroom Tax. I also welcome the investigation being undertaken by the Chief Executive. “
The SNP Group tried, without success , to achieve this position at the Housing Committee on 20 March.
