Sheena felt privileged to be elected as a councillor in East Kilbride Central North in 2007 and since then has worked hard to represent constituents as effectively as possible. She has lived in the community she represents for over 30 years, bringing up her family there.

Sheena comes from a working class family, realised the advantages of education and was a teacher all her working life. She represented colleagues in schools being a life-long activist and national office-bearer of the EIS. Supporting local people as a councillor seemed like a natural step to take – representing people with various concerns and problems.

Believing strongly that local councillors are elected first and foremost to represent people in the local community, Sheena holds regular surgeries, is available for home visits and takes up problems raised by community councils and residents’ groups.

With a background in education, Sheena attends Parent Council meetings in her ward and believes that parents should be genuinely treated as partners in their children’s learning. She is proud of the SNP’s commitment to free education and supports the completion of the primary school replacement programme, having been proud to take part in the official opening of Kirktonholme Primary.

Sheena is Education Spokesperson on the SNP Group in SLC and a member of the SNP Shadow Cabinet.
