Linda Fabiani MSP for East Kilbride spoke at the recent public meeting in the Council Chambers in East Kilbride organized by the Communication Workers Union to oppose the proposed franchising of the East Kilbride Crown Post Office.
Following the meeting Linda said:
“East Kilbride is Scotland’s largest town and for the Post Office to suggest that our town does not warrant a Crown Post Office in the Town Centre is ridiculous. Our Crown Post Office is an asset to the Town Centre and is always busy – if we lose this facility the nearest Crown Post Office would be in Motherwell!”
“The turnout at the meeting showed just how angry and concerned the people of East Kilbride are about this, and it is absolutely imperative that our community rallies to oppose this. The CWU will of course keep up the struggle on behalf of the employees and the public, and I know that, for example, the Elderly Forum will be very vocal as it affects so many of their members and those they represent. The Petition being sent to Westminster should be only the start of our campaign.
“The Post Office and the Westminster Government should be considering the needs of the residents of East Kilbride and investing in the Crown Post Office – it is in a prime location and I am sure could be used to much greater advantage.
