Linda Fabiani MSP met with local MSYP, Rachael McCully in Parliament to discuss the views of young people in East Kilbride
Tuesday evening MSPs and Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYPs) from up and down the country came together to focus on the views and voices of young people in Scotland. The Parliamentary reception, hosted by the youngest-ever MSP, Ross Greer, focused on the Scottish Youth Parliament’s 2016-2021 Manifesto, Lead the Way.
Lead the Way is based on the analysis of 72,744 consultation responses from young people all over Scotland, and outlines their views on 54 different issues, everything from climate change to physical assault on children. At the reception, MSPs got the opportunity to meet with their local MSYP to discuss the issues affecting young people specifically in their area.
“The Lead the Way analysis is an important piece of work and we should all reflect on the issues our young folk have outlined.
“It was great to chat to Rachael and hear of some of the issues which directly impact upon young folk locally. I look forward to meeting with Rachael regularly and ensuring young people’s views are listened to and taken into consideration.”

- The Scottish Youth Parliament is democratically elected voice of Scotland’s young people. Their vision for Scotland is of a nation that actively listens to and values the meaningful participation of its children and young people. SYP is grounded in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, particularly Article 12, which lays out young people’s right to be listened to on the issues that affect them, and for their views to be given weight.
- Lead the Way was launched on 12 March 2016 during the 59th Sitting of the Scottish Youth Parliament, and directs the policy of the organisation for the next five years.
