LANARKSHIRE POLITICANS CALL FOR DELAY IN CLOSURE OF THE ‘ONE STOP SHOP’

linda 4Lanarkshire based SNP MSPs and MPs have today called for a delay in the closure of the ‘One Stop Shop’ in Motherwell.

This follows complaints from parents that alternative facilities either are not available or will not be ready in time.

Currently, South Lanarkshire Council have proposed to establish their own ‘One Stop Shop’, however the few details that have been made public have been criticised by parents. North Lanarkshire Council have proposed to continue their support for HOPE, however concerns have been raised around waiting lists and the potential costs attached.

The Scottish Government commitment to fund the Autism Centre was met in full and both Local Authorities were aware of their responsibility.

Commenting, Christina McKelvie MSP, Linda Fabiani MSP, Angela Crawley MP, Margaret Ferrier MP, Lisa Cameron MP, Aileen Campbell MSP. Claire Adamson MSP, Marion Fellows MP, Claire Haughey MSP said:

“The treatment and support of those with ASD and their families is too important to risk.

“With only four weeks until the ‘One Stop Shop’ is due to close, both Local Authorities have yet to produce concrete detail of alternative facilities.

“We are therefore calling on both South and North Lanarkshire Councils to delay the closure of the ‘One Stop Shop’ in Motherwell and provide interim funding until alternative provisions are in full working order.”

The facility is due to close on the 3rd of June 2016.
