Jim is Vice-Convenor of the East Kilbride SNP branch. Jim has served on South Lanarkshire Council since 1999, first as councillor for Calderglen from 1999 to 2007 and as a councillor for East Kilbride East from 2007 to the present time.

Jim has played an active part in many local campaigns notably the campaign to reverse the council decision to sell off part of Calderglen Park for luxury housing and the fight to reduce the speed limit on the Strathaven Road where there had been numerous deaths and serious injuries.

Jim has lived in Calderwood and St Leonards for 40 years and taught in St Brides HS for 25 years. Like all SNP councillors he is committed to completing the primary school rebuilding programme.

Jim  believes very strongly that local councillors are elected first and foremost to represent the people in the local area. He was happy to be described by the EK News as a ‘local community activist’. He has always worked with community councils and residents’ groups to fight for improvements locally.

Jim is proud of East Kilbride but like many others he recognises that there is a lot to be done to make the town the place it used to be and indeed should be.

On a personal level Jim’s hobbies include a daily swim, fly-fishing and following the fortunes of his boyhood team Queen of the South.
