WATER BILLS WILL BE FROZEN ALONG WITH COUNCIL TAX BY SNP GOVERNMENT
Linda Fabiani MSP has welcomed an announcement by Scottish Finance Secretary, John Swinney, that a re-elected SNP government will ensure that household water bills do not rise for two years, alongside a continued council tax freeze.
SNP MSP Linda said:
“Over the last three years the SNP government’s council tax freeze has helped hard-pressed households with average savings of over £300. The confirmation that a re-elected SNP Government will continue and consolidate that help with a two year freeze in water charges is one that will be welcomed by families in East Kilbride.
“While water charges south of the border are set to rise by 5%, Scottish households will save nearly £50 compared to customers of the privatised English companies.
“This action by the Scottish Government is made possible by the fact that we have – and will continue to – keep Scottish Water safe in public hands, allowing us to ensure that the customer benefits from public ownership with better services and lower bills. This is in sharp contrast to the disastrous privatisation plans of the Tories, who want to sell off Scottish Water to private companies that could charge consumers what they wished.
“Households in East Kilbride and across Scotland can rest assured that an SNP government will always run Scottish Water in the interests of Scottish customers, not private profit.”
