Linda Fabiani MSP for East Kilbride has today welcomed new funding that will come to East Kilbride from The Scottish Government to tackle youth unemployment across the town.
Following an announcement by the Minister for Youth Employment Angela Constance that £9m will be targeted at youth unemployment hot spots, the local MSP particularly welcomed news that South Lanarkshire will receive nearly £1.5m (£1, 457,000) to tackle youth unemployment in the area.
Welcoming the news Linda said “This is a real boost for East Kilbride’s young people who have been so badly affected by the draconian Westminster cuts and are desperate to contribute to society through work.
“Youth unemployment is a tragedy and councils have a key part to play in tackling it. The Scottish Government continues to support South Lanarkshire and its young people and the challenge now is for local authorities to use this money wisely and innovatively.
“The SNP Government are working continuously to create jobs and opportunities for our young people. We’ve ensured that there will be 25, 000 modern apprenticeship places each year for the life time of this parliament, and created an opportunities for all scheme that ensures that young people have the chance of a place in education or training. Young people in East Kilbride can be assured that we are continuing to do all we can to help them through these extremely difficult times.”
