FABIANI WELCOMES £195 MILLION AFFORDABLE HOME FUNDING BOOST AS SCOTLAND ON TRACK TO MEET 30,000 AFFORDABLE HOMES TARGET
The Social Justice Secretary, Alex Neil MSP, this week announced that the successor scheme to the Help to Buy programme will focus on affordable homes and is set to help up to 6,500 households over the period.
The new scheme will also ensure small developers are able to access specific support. This will build on the success of the Help to Buy scheme which has already helped 7,500 households in Scotland buy a new-build home over the past three years.
Commenting, Linda Fabiani said:
“This new funding is extremely welcome and will not only help families in East Kilbride, but thousands across the country will benefit. The new scheme will focus on affordable homes and demonstrates the SNP’s commitment to tackling inequality and promoting social justice.
“The £195 million scheme will build on the SNP’s strong record on affordable homes. We are extremely close to meeting our target of 30,000 affordable homes by March next year and planned investment in affordable housing is set to reach £1.7 billion in this parliamentary term. This commitment comes despite huge cuts to our budget from the Tories in Westminster.
“Building new homes creates jobs and supports economic growth. It’s particularly welcome that the new scheme will continue to support small housing developers, which will boost local economies and create jobs.”
