Linda Fabiani MSP for East Kilbride has welcomed a £10 million boost to the housing budget, which will provide new affordable homes, support jobs and stimulate economic growth.
Linda said “The money will be invested in new affordable homes in housing developments across Scotland, providing high quality, sustainable homes for rent, and I will be impressing on the Housing Minister that East Kilbride needs such homes.
“I hope to work along with South Lanarkshire Council to attract some of this investment to East Kilbride, which has suffered disproportionately with a lack of affordable rent housing through the right to buy scheme and years of Labour neglect when between 2003 and 2007 the Labour/Liberal Coalition only provided 6 new Council homes in the whole of Scotland!
“Some progress has already been made in East Kilbride from extra funding earlier in the financial year resulting in new homes in Calderwood and Whitehills, and extra funding from the Scottish Government for insulation is also allowing great improvements in the town with a huge programme of cavity wall insulation ongoing.
“This latest boost to the Scottish social housing sector is a success story for the SNP Government in the area of housing, in financially restrictive times.”
The funding comes from the Spring Budget Revision of the Barnett consequentials for 2011-12
