Linda Fabiani MSP for East Kilbride has expressed her anger after hearing Lloyds TSB Banking Group are denying Scots access to high-interest accounts – restricting it only to Halifax customers in England.
Linda said “I am outraged that customers here in East Kilbride are being denied the same benefits on offer to customers in England, especially in relation to children’s savings accounts.
“Following a query from a colleague, the bank confirmed there are separate rates in place due to different management teams, therefore customers south of the border are being offered a savings rate of 2.5% but people in Scotland are only being offered 2%.
“I do not think it is acceptable that there are two separate rates for people living in Scotland and England, with a financial disadvantage to those living north of the border.
“It is also extremely disappointing to hear the 6% children’s savings account has also been restricted to England. These banking groups are all run by Lloyds, so there must be parity between them.”
