East Kilbride golfer makes Open

Linda Fabiani MSP for East Kilbride has led the town’s congratulations for local golfer Scott Jamieson who made history by becoming the first golfer from East Kilbride to qualify for the Open Championship.

Linda said “the people of East Kilbride are immensely proud of Scott’s achievement. His dedication to the sport is an inspiration to others and on behalf of the town, I would like to wish him the best of luck at the Championship.”

“It is an exciting time for East Kilbride with its sports men and women achieving great results both at home and abroad. Local gymnast Jon Mackie had an amazing result at the Special Olympics in Athens bringing home six gold medals and one silver medal.”

“As well as our fantastic athletes, I would also like to praise the coaches, support staff and families of our athletes who put in the time and hard work to help achieve these great results. East Kilbride is a fantastic place to play sport with a wide variety of clubs on offer from roller hockey to table tennis to cricket.”

“I am also looking forward to the International Children’s Games next month where East Kilbride has been selected to host the Swimming and Track and Field events due to its fantastic sporting facilities.”
