Two East Kilbride business leaders took part in the 2010 Business in Parliament conference, bringing their experiences of building business success to the discussions on the conference’s theme of ‘Building a Stronger Economy’.
Douglas Lamb, Managing Director of the Boxshop Ltd, and Dr Cameron MacDonald, Managing Director of Controlled Therapeutics (Scotland) Ltd, attended the annual event as guests of Linda Fabiani MSP. The sixth annual Business in the Parliament (BiP) conference focused on how the public and private sectors can work together, against a background of budget cuts, to lead the economy out of the doldrums. Keynote speakers included First Minister Alex Salmond and Finance Secretary John Swinney.
Speaking after the event, Strathaven-based MSP Linda said:
“I was very pleased that two of East Kilbride’s business success stories were represented at this year’s BiP conference. The conference has become a parliamentary instituition and is taken very seriously by MSPs, the Scottish Government and the business community, and I thought it was very important that those attending were able to hear about the contribution that East Kilbride is making to getting Scotland’s economy back on track.
“Controlled Therapeutics and Boxshop Ltd make very different products, but both companies share a commitment to quality that has helped them to not only survive but thrive, even in difficult economic circumstances, providing vital jobs in the East Kilbride area, helping to identify the town as a good location in which to achieve business success and strengthening Scotland’s manufacturing sector.
“I thoroughly enjoyed hosting Douglas and Cameron in the Scottish Parliament and I look forward to seeing both of their businesses continue their success in the years ahead.”
