Douglas was elected to the Council at the last elections in 2007 and sits on a number of council committees gaining experience of the workings of the Council. Previously he has been the SNP candidate for East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow in the 2005 Westminster election. He continues to live in the East Kilbride South Ward.
Douglas has been a registered architect for 25 years studying architecture in Aberdeen and holding an Honours Degree in Architecture. He is currently working in Glasgow for a large engineering company and has lived in his community for the last 20 years. Prior to this Douglas spent 2 years in the Gambia with Voluntary Service Overseas working in the Department of Housing and Building Control for the Gambian Government.
Douglas is married and is an active member of his church. Other than being a councillor his interests also include family history research, history, the cinema and reading.
Coming from a working class family himself, Douglas believes in education. He is proud of the SNP’s commitment to free education and, like the rest of the SNP Group, is fully committed to the South Lanarkshire Council primary school replacement programme and looks forward to its completion in 2015.
