What is the SNP’s attitude to gay marriage?
I have received a number of questions on this, from people who both favour and oppose formal recognition of same sex relationships.
The SNP proposes that the Scottish Government consult on allowing, but not forcing, churches to recognise same sex marriages.
My view is that the law should not stop churches from conducting same sex marriage ceremonies where this is in line with the beliefs of church members.
This would accord with the principle that the state should respect an individual’s right to religious observance provided this does not conflict with the human rights of others.
