#AskFabiani – SNP protects and extends free travel

Question:

What is the SNP’s policy on free bus passes for the elderly?

Answer:

In government, the SNP has been effective in looking after the interests of Scotland’s older citizens.

For the first time, we fully funded free personal care for the elderly.  We protected concessionary travel for the elderly and those with a disability.

Our Council Tax Freeze – now being half-heartedly copied by Labour – protected the budgets of pensioners during very difficult times.

In this election, the SNP is not only committed to retain free bus travel for the elderly, we have also extended it to injured veterans.

From 1 April, free bus travel is available to anyone who received a lump sum benefit under the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme.

Despite our current difficulties, Scotland is a wealthy country.

The SNP believes we can afford to be a fairer society, looking after those who have already made their contribution or do not have the capacity to do so.
