Duncan feels honoured to be selected to stand for the SNP in East Kilbride Central South Ward and, if elected, will work with fellow SNP councillors to put the pride back into East Kilbride.
All across the ward there is a great deal of concern about South Lanarkshire Council’s approach to East Kilbride. The poor management of community facilities is plain to see, with rusted and decayed play equipment and crumbling lock-ups testifying to years of neglect.
The threatened closure of the Red Deer Centre proves we need change at the top. Although the closure has been halted thanks to John Anderson’s intervention, users need the reassurance of a commitment to the centre’s long-term future. If elected, Duncan will work with the users to secure that commitment.
The Council’s failure to consult the community over charges for parking permits led to months of concern for local residents. Having been forced to listen, the Council cut its costs instead of imposing charges. This demonstrates the benefit – to everyone – of greater transparency in Council decision-making.
Duncan, a resident of Strathaven, has been a member of East Kilbride SNP for 15 years. He worked in housing and regeneration for over 20 years and still works as a consultant in that field.
