SNP candidate for East Kilbride Linda Fabiani has warmly welcomed the extension of free bus travel to injured veterans from 1 April.
Free bus passes are now available to anyone who has received a lump sum benefit under the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme.
This iincludes those wounded in combat, as well as anyone who suffered injury, illness, or disability while working for the MOD, no matter how long they were in MOD employment.
“This is a move which will be warmly welcomed in East Kilbride, where there are many armed forces veterans and forces families.
“Many East Kilbride citizens made heroic sacrifices over the years and continue to do so now. I’m sure everyone in the town will be glad to see them get something back.
“The extension of the free bus pass scheme to injured veterans is a sign of the SNP’s commitment to support, and fair treatment for, those who have served their country.
“Over the past four years, the SNP government has doubled funding for the Scottish Veterans Fund and has put in place vastly improved levels of healthcare and support specifically tailored to veterans.
“Our veterans deserve our gratitude, but they also deserve real, practical help to access the services and support they need. Free bus travel is a very good example of that help, and I applaud the SNP Government for making it happen.”
